My opponent uses these grey building things (Not gun turrets or fortress). About 4 or 6 came up. What exactly do they do?

Probably it's mentioned somewhere in the rules. At least it should be. If it's not:
- it's subspace beacon, you can enter it as any other building. If you stay inside three turns (and it's not destroyed by somebody), it will disappear, and you will get one extra random action
- so if you have beacons in your hand, it's very good idea to beam them down on first turn, and immediately enter one. You have good chances to get extra action before your oponent gets near to you

Ahh, so that's why I had two predator's once...

I tend to move one space near the centre first, so I get 8? beacons instead of 6? Or maybe 6 instead of 4.

Actually, it's a little bit unfinished. If you are standing close to border of the screen it shoudl place them in little bit different pattern, so you get more of them. I think I can do it .. ONCE... when I have time

In fact I guess it should also check line-of-sight, it not not place beacon at place, which you cannot "see". But this is not a big deal probably.

Bakster was new to the game back then. He was young, much like you are now.
