well, i downloaded sun-java but it totally slows down all my java programs and it sucks. can anyone give me link to an older version of java? - one without the cup thing.
btw, If its zero degrees Fahrenheit tonight, and tomorrow
its meant to be twice as cold, how cold
will it be?
peace.

if the cup is the only thing you don't like I believe it's possible to turn it off. Otherwise sun's java is way better and faster. Sun's java should be always preffered - unless you have very old and very slow computer. In this case microsoft's java might be better.
here you can donwload old java, but it is 5 years old technology. Many new java programms will not work. Runescape and my games will work. You can also have installed both and switch between them
(tools/internet options/advanced/Jav(Sun))
http://www.duelboard.com/getjava/msjavx86.exe
The cup thing is the problem with my java as well. It doesn't appear.
I downloaded the Sun java some time ago, and a few days ago I logged onto to Duelboard to find the cup sitting there. After the cup loaded, sites such as www.randomthoughts.net worked, which didn't work before.
The trouble is, I can't get the cup to load manually, it seems to appear randomly when I use a java website. I have tried the stuff on the Java Control Panel, but nothing.
Now I'm a bit confused, I'm not sure what Wildtigre meant by "CUP", he probably meant that cup picture, I meant "upgrade program" :) Never mind, what I said is true, if you have decent computer you should use new Sun's java, if you have old computer them dowload old microsoft's java using the link I provided

From a scientific perspectice, consider twice as cold as being 1/2 of the kinetic engery.
(0º F-32)/1.8 = -17.78º C + 273 = 255.22 K
255.22/2 = 127.61 K - 273 = -145.39º C*1.8 + 32= -229.7º F
I hope this answers your question. :D
Can someone answer my query?!?!?! Pweese?

can you explain what exactly do you mean by "loading the cup manually"? I have no idea what do you mean.

When I go to a java website (Duelboard), the java logo that looks like a cup appears in the bottom corner and everything works, but it happens very rarely and I can't get that to happen when I want.

This java logo should appear ONLY when you go to a website with java (like Duelboard). You mean that sometimes you visit page with java, and this logo doesn't appear? And the games do not work? That's .. strange
I hate this bullshit.
I uninstalled java, installed the new version and suddenly this 'verify installation' bullshit says I don't have the latest version...then I download the latest version again and it still doesn't work! AAHGHRGHAGHR
Hmmm...the cup logo appeared, but now Random Thoughts games don't work!!!
WHY CANT ANYTHING GO MY WAY!?!?!?!
Bakster, computers suck, go playing real chess
lol
And now the cup logo never appears again...*sigh*
OK, I tried to install Java version 5.0 update 5, it doesn't appear on my add/remove list and java.com says I don't have it either....
so it means you don't have it. Installation had to fail
Here's the whole story:
A month ago, the cup logo wasn't appearing, so I removed all java using the Add/Remove program.
Then I downloaded the newest version of java from java.com (Version 5.0, Update 5)
Upon verifying my installation, java said I had Java Runtime Version 1.1.4, and that I needed to install 5.5
So I did it again, and verifying still said 1.1.4...
So I tried installing again today and it said I already have version 5.5 (bullshit), and that I needed to remove it from Add/Remove programs in the control panel in order to install it again.
So I go to add remove programs, and surprise surprise, IT ISN'T THERE!!!
HELP!!
NOW DUELBOARD ISNT WORKING AND I DONT HAVE ANY JAVA OF ANY SORT EVEN THOUGH IT SAYS I DO!!
Bakster, I know where is the problem. Your computer needs a new user.
Seriously.
If you are using internet explorer, try to open menu Tools/Internet Options/Advanced
Somewhere in the middle of that page there should be one or two sections for java (once section for sun's java and other section for ms's java, if they are installed). If some checkbox is unchecked, try to check it. You will have to close all browser windows and restart it for changes to take effect.
If it didn't help ... I cannot suggest you anything else but to go to http://java.sun.com/getjava and follow instructions.
You know, it's difficult to fix your computer if it's on the other side of the earth.

LOL! Owned.
If something's messed with your java installation, it might be also useful to delete your registry setting related to java.. but it is tricky stuf. Use only at last resort, and on your own risk. (if you make something wrong bad things may happen)
I tested it with Windows XP pro
1. choose Start / Run...
2. type in   regedit   and press enter
3. You will see big directory tree. Select HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Javasoft
4. Now you should delete whole Javasoft folder (right click and delete)
Be very careful to only delete this folder and nothing else.
Once you deleted it you should be able to install java again. Make sure to install latest version. I don't know where did you get version 1.1.4 Â - it's like 5 years old.
While installing close all your web browser windows (not sure if it's really necessary, but it doesn't hurt).
The checkboxes are already ticked, and the java website has no use...
The registry thing didn't work either...
Wow...looking through the registry thing I have so many java stuff.
Maybe the new version is hidden somewhere and needs to be retrieved? :'(
Be careful in there, delete one wrong thing and your computer is fux0r3d.
I've found Version 5.0 Update 2 from download.com....hopefully this will work....pray for me!
bakster, i'm flying to england and i'm bringing you a brand new computer. also i will give you computer lessons, if you take me to amsterdam :)

Sigh...all the java folders are there but it's not working!!
Update on the critical java situation...
I have installed some old java runtime software from www.download.com
Unfortunately, java still doesn't work.
Now the Java Control Panel says I need to update to 5.0 Update 5, then it contradicts itself by saying that I already have it...
And the DOS Prompt says I have java version "1.5.0_02", so why isn't it working?
I tried opening Limewire and got this bug report. I assume it has something to do with java. Any help?

Ouch. The only necessary bit of that was the beginning. And that's not very useful to me.
So the problem can't be fixed?
Help me fix the problem!
[/size]
Bakster, I would really like to help you, but I cannot when I don't sit behind your computer.
Normally there is no problem with java installation - so there has to be something seriously messed up. So I can only suggest you to bring home somebody very skilled with computers who can fix it ... or at last resort to reinstall operating system.
I'll send ya tickets to the next plane to England :(
I still have shizmoo games...
