Title: Inspired
Post by: Logan17 on April 28, 2006, 12:44:11 PM
I'm working my way to becomming a professional painter and graphic designer so when I saw the call for new graphics I couldn't resist trying some.  I'm used to painting at a minimum size of 2700 by 3700 pixels so how hard could 32 by 32 pixels be?  Surprisingly difficult!  My first effort was good untill I realised I had made it 80 x 80 pixels, was nearly pullin my hair out!  Anyway got some work on the hover tank finished.  Not sure if it looks clear enough or is coloured well enough.  By the way, you do still need graphics right?

I hope I have attached these right.

I noticed the old hover tank only hovered up and down so I didn't animate anything on the tank itself. Didn't have time to do a dead phase.  Bear in mind these two pictures are my very first effort at pixel art so I'm sure I could become slighter better with a little time.  Please let me know if I have got anything wrong.

I'm flying to Bradford to play a few football matches so I won't be on the site for a while.

This MUD/RPG is on hold :) At the moment I'm working on new card/board games www.duelboard.com/rook

Well if you feel like doing graphics, I could sure find some good use for you (at least to create icons, user interface, and soon also graphics to games themselves)

Ok I added a pulsing hover glow and painted in the dead phase.  Matlu you can replace this for the old one or not, whichever you prefer.  i was just having some fun trying it.  Fell free to ask if you need any graphics for rook,  I like a challenge.

I love it so much I animated it for you  :-*

One critisism : In frame three the tank drops too much..it looks a bit jerky. Maybe you could have it not dropping so low?

Y thank you  ;D

You'r right, it does seem to jerky.  I had placed the 3 different tank frames in flash to run in a loop at 26 frames per second.   That seemed to run a little differently from your animation,  The red pulse only expanded as the tank droped.  What order do you have the frames running in?

And at the risk of sounding rather stupid, how do you post images as a little animation like that?  ???

By the way, like the style of those commander animations.

The order of frames should be : 1, 2, 3, 2, 1, 2, 3, 2, 1, 2, 3, 2, 1...etc
                                   not 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3...etc

I make the animations with 36 split seconds between each frame, I'm pretty certain this is what it is in game...

I use a neat little program called Jasc Animation Shop 3. You copy each frame of the jpg into the program, select what options you need, it animates it, and you can save it as a .gif.

Hey, looking good.  Looks much more like it is hovering than my first feeble attempt.  And now, my friend, I'm gonna have to sue you for tampering!

:P Heh heh, just kidding, no need to ask for permission.  Thanx.

Well - may opinion:  The very bottom line of that red glow should:

1. either stay at one place (so the glow increases and decreases)
2. or move together in sync with body of tank (so the glow doesn't change its size)

Ok I think I Originally made the glow a little too vibrant.  This is much more subtle, maybe too subtle?  The 3rd frame has a extra line of slightly transparent red.  Try that as an animation Dodger.
