Title: Hoverboard help
Post by: haferhole1 on May 04, 2006, 10:23:56 AM
i was gonna post this in unrelated, but this forum section is the most neglected, excluding rook and mud because i dont think i could make this relate to those.  but back to the topic.

me and about 4 friends are building a hoverboard.  now i know what ur thinking. either:

"wow, cool, how u gonna do that? ill help"

or

"5 16 year old kids are going to build a hovering skateboard? what is this? back to the future?  retards."

now to those of u who are thinking the 1st thought, thank you. ill take all the help i can get.  im sort of the mastermind behind this plan because im the only 1 who understands how to make it hover

whoever is thinking the second thought, screw u, we got this idea playing sonic riders on xbox, not watching some crappy  movie from 1802.  (note, i have never seen back to the future, and my critisizing it is based on absoloutly nothing.)

now, on to how it what we have to far.  we were thinking of ways to power it.  im gonna list em so u dont suggest them.

- Gas/Engine - great consept, but we dont want it to be too expensive to power, and with gas at $100 per gallon, and the board eating it up very quickly, u can imagine how expencive it is.  also, it would be bad for the grass, burning a hole in it, and if u rode it indoors, there goes ur livingroom couch.

- Solar Power - ah, perfect, lets harness the power of the sun... until a cloud comes by

- Magnets - unless we can convince good old bush to pave all the streets with a metal sheat to push against, and make all cars/poles/signs/motersicles out of plastic so we dont get stuck on 1 and brought along for the ride, this plans worthless

- Nuclear power - no nuclear plants anywhere near me and i dont have a licence, nor do i think i can convince my mom to take my out to ohio to get some for my hoverboard.

- antimater - a FANTASTICLY efficient power sorse, but i have no clue where to get it

now our current idea. im gonna try to explain this as simply as possible although, its sort of complicated.
we are gonna use four "repulsion coil assemblies" each containing a low temperature plasma generator at its core. vertical columns of plasma are created underneath each assembly and magnetically coupled to the repulsion coils through electromagnetic induction. the field of the repulsion coil and the field induced in the plasma column repel according to lenzs law, thus levitating the board.

the concept is called plasmagnetic levitation, and ingeniously uses the same principles for propulsion, braking and steering

were going off of 3 principles.

sorry about the picture being in 2 pieces.
we thought we had a good system, but 1 problem.  this design can only support mabey 55 pounds.  and we want to be able to ride it.  so the reason i need help:

HOW DO I MAKE IT HOLD MINIMUM 150-200 POUNDS? keep in mind, i want it to still look sleek,  so dont throw on like a 10 foot engine or anything

...wow... that took longer to type then i thought it would.

Would probably be easier if you combined these four things:

A 6x24 sheet of plywood or acrylic.
A flexible, impermeable covering material (heavy duty polythene should do)
A heavy duty fan (vacuum or dyson will also do the trick)
A couple of yards of duct tape

ah simple use the mythbusters version they took cloth 2 leaf blowers and a circle of wood

nailed the  leave blowers on  then put the cloth around them (gas tanks stick out from cloth) then they cut 3 holes in it and they can hold 250 pounds max

would a fan be able to support all the weight? and even if it could, i get off it, and my board goes flying into the air never to be seen again

I gots an idea... you know how redbull gives you wings? Well, maybe you can make the hoverboard run off redbull. Like cars run on gas and etc...
