Title: Guests
Post by: The_Gu3st on October 13, 2005, 11:42:20 PM
Matlu, would it be possible to make it so that guests can only play non-rated games? If the true purpose of the guest feature is to "test" the game, then there should be no-problem testing it in a non-rated game. Does anyone disagree?

.....Non-rated games are annoying...And what if you have a large rated game, then a guest won't be allowed to join...

Hmmm....It has good and bad sides i suppose.

I don't disagree.

that would be good, but picture this:
5 people just get out of a game, and are about to sart another 1. once someone does, he will oviously make it rated, hoping to get points.  a guest logs on and clicks to get in and leaves since he cant get in.  there goes another player  :(

honestly, when was the last time you made a non-rated game?  i think iv only made like 2 or 3

But its completely unfair that a guest has nothing to lose, and players do. A guest can screw around, beam a mech, and then kill everyone. Usernames usually wouldnt take that chance... guests are being abused.

what u talkin about? i always take that chance! (ask dodger)

but how about this? we change it so if a guests dont really matter in the game, noone loses any points if the guest wins, and if he/she doesnt win, they dont give the 2 points everyone else does to the winner.

that would solve a few problems.
- no more topics complaining about guests taking ur points
- more players, since people wouldnt feel they need to beat the guest and it would build there confidence
- no more logging onto a guest and giving others points by losing intentionally

what u guys think?

Let me re-phrase that. No one who wants to win would do that. That would be a good idea, but you still waste your "cards" in killing the guests that do play the games... so they are still a "distraction" so to say.

ill admit, it would need some work, but do u like the idea in general?

Better than what we have now. But it's just so depressing when a guest wins a 6 player game... all that time wasted for nothing. Nobody benefitted outta it, people only lost.

This is a very good idea. Implement it now! And make us watch games! Electropulse and virus!

Way too complicated to do.

Easiest way? No more guest names.

This is getting out of hand. Guests have never been nor will they ever be used for their right purpose. It only takes 1 extra minute to make a username. Im getting sick of this and so is zz. Here's the poll, hopefully matlu will notice it this time.

How dare you mention my name!

I am going to flip flop on this issue.  Keep the guest names!!!

To Guest (No one else read):
Now all the anti-zz players will support removing the guest feature. ;)

how does one abuse this guest 'feature'?  is it a feature?
Title: Re: Guests
Post by: The_Gu3st on December 21, 2005, 10:26:17 PM
Guests are meant to "try out the game to see if they like it" and then register a username. No one uses the guests this way, therefore they are abused.

QuoteBut its completely unfair that a guest has nothing to lose, and players do. A guest can screw around, beam a mech, and then kill everyone. Usernames usually wouldnt take that chance... guests are being abused.

I really don't think that disabling guests would solve this (or any other) problem. I don't think that anybody is abusing this feauture, and even if somebody DID, disabling guests will NOT prevent it. He/She may still create throw-away account instead of playing as guest.
Really, this idea makes no sense. I'm not going to remove existing feature for no reason. Your reasons make no sense, sorry.

you can still:
- not play guests, if you think they are "dangerous"
- play only non-rated games with guests
Title: Re: Guests
Post by: The_Gu3st on December 21, 2005, 11:34:32 PM
Not to sound like a prick, but I certainly dont agree with you. You say "you can choose to not play with guests" but how do you do that when a guest joins your game or a game you wish to play in?

Making a throw-away account would still require more effort. I dont see why you are so insistent on keeping the guest feature. It truly makes no sense and a majority of people agree with me.

And what makes you think guests arent being abused? Isnt the object of a guest feature to test the game to see if you like it?

Well, last night, there were 2 or 3 guests who had definitely played this game before and they leeched our points in two 6 player games.

Matlu, you have no substance behind your argument, guests are useless. It only takes ONE EXTRA MINUTE to register an account.

QuoteMaking a throw-away account would still require more effort
as you said, it takes one minute. Maybe less. If somebody really wants to abuse, he WILL spend one minute on creating his special-account-just-to-abuse.

QuoteWell, last night, there were 2 or 3 guests who had definitely played this game before and they leeched our points in two 6 player games.
would it be any different if guests were disabled? No. They would spend one minute to create "abuse" account.
