Apologies if this one has been suggested before, but I deeply miss playing Slimewar on Jagex.com. The game was a version of Ataxx, a sort of mutant Othello, highly addictive, highly strategic, where even a late move could turn the whole game around.

I would love to see this game back online!

Did this game actually exist? If it did, post some screenshots, Ive never heard of it or seen it. The only way the game could be remade is if you have specific details on it and pictures. AND most importantly, if Matlu has the time and is willing to do it.

It was on the Jagex site, not gamesdomain castle.
ZZ, to me you're nothing but one incredibly smokin' hott, built up, knowledgable hunk of man. And yes, I hope you put this in your sig too.

I know this game, I saw it on jagex site, and I probably also played it once or twice.  But as I said before, due to lack of players I basically stopped the development of two-player games, and I'm concentrating on MUD.

I would gladly make this game, but it really makes no sense, currently I have 5 mostly-empty games, it makes sense to create 6th :(

For those who are interested, there is a site all about Ataxx, and its many variants here:
<a href="http://www.pressibus.org/ataxx/indexgb.html">Ataxx site</a>

The classic version of the game is 2-player, played out on a board which is 7 X 7 squares. Each player starts with two pieces in corners of the board, opposite the other player's pieces. See diagram below:

<img src="http://www.devisraad.com/slj/phage.gif">

The rules are very simple. By using horizontal, vertical or diagonal moves, any piece may move into an adjacent free square, in which case a new piece is spawned in that square. Alternatively, a piece may JUMP two squares in any direction (This is a movement of the same piece, not a spawning of a new piece). If there are enemy pieces in any adjacent squares, they are absorbed, and change to the player's colour. The player with the most pieces at the end of the game wins.

Popular versions also mix things up by having various arrangements of blocks onscreen (as shown in the screenshot above). Slimewar didn't include blocks, but was still highly addictive.

It's the kind of game you have to play, to understand just how amazingly good it is. No two games play out the same way, everyone has different strategies and a game that looks like a sure victory can go completely to hell, if you make one dumb move.

Here is a shot of Jagex Slimewar:

And here is the original arcade game, Ataxx, which is playable on the MAME arcade emulator, and features some good computer opponents:

I know not many people play the traditional board games on this site, but I would certainly bring friends to play Ataxx :(

Anyway, thanks for the site!

I also should have mentioned:
You can download a copy of the MAME arcade emulator, with the Ataxx ROM here:

Load up the game, then press '5' to add coins, '1' to begin, and use the mouse to play! Excellent game! :D
