Wonder how the game would work on a 3D board.

It probably would work, but I'm not sure about controls, and if it was also really playable. You'll probably have to wait till they come up with 3d monitors... 

btw somebody was trying to make 3d clone of Chaos. (not 3d board, just 3d view!). I tried it, but it was not finished, and had ugly models.
