What is the defence of Alien Goo? What determines whether you kill it or not when it is attacked?
nothing as far as i can tell... just like beacons... ive had predators unable to kill a beacon of mine before and just last night my beacon was killed by a probe and then i was killed by a slime blob... so ya... shit happens.. its randomocity on when it happens...
So, is it just totally random? Let's see what matlu has to say....
goo has defence 6
Quotemy beacon was killed by a probe
beacons have defence 5. Probe can kill it when very lucky
Thanks matlu. Do turrets also have defence 5? Why arn't these stats written on the right in game?
QuoteThanks matlu. Do turrets also have defence 5?
gun turrets have defence 6
QuoteWhy arn't these stats written on the right in game?
because it requires some additional programming :)
How about the strength of turrets?
Ok. I have always considered turrets rather pointless. They are called gun turrets, however, they have no range and are quite weak. The only thing they do is inhibit movement.
I'm afraid they would become too strong with higher strength
Wow, I once killed a tank and a hovership with turrets on the same turn. Got me out of a pickle, now I realise how lucky I was!
theyre great for strategy sometimes... other times theyre just a waste...
Leave it how it is.
If it isn't broken, don't fix it.
Thanks for the info Matlu...
Does Turret have a chance of killing a mech warrior?
yeah... a probe has a chance of killing mech warrior...
neither turret nor probe have chance to kill mech warior. The difference between strength and defence has to be at least 4 to get (small) chance.
so if the difference is 5 then you have 0.00% chance?
yes
so how is it my commander has been killed by a probe before? :-\
The difference is only 4 between probes attack and commanders deffence so a probe has a very small chance of killing a commander, making it extremely satisfying when it does :D
very small would mean it wouldnt happen hardly ever.. ive had those very small chances happen more than a few times :-\
there is 3.3% chance. So it should happen approx. 3 times from 100 ATTEMPTS.
Damn small, but i once killed someone with a probe and then killed someone else with a drone in the same game ;D
yeah.... thats a bit off... :-\
A bit off?? It was proper funny! :D
I killed someone with a probe once. I also killed a force armor commander with a normal commander. My opponent in both those games has 2 rating points (surprise, surprise!) ;D
I got killed by a drone yesterday.. :-(
sounds like it happens quite often for a 3 in 100 type thing....
Nopes, ive only lost once to a drone, once to a probe, once to a jeep, and once to a fire fox out of 800 and something games.
happens to me once every 10 games or so.... :-\
The game must be making you make up for all the games i havnt died like that :P
i wouldnt be surprised >:(
OOOOOOOOOOH.
take the percentage chance of a succesful beam down, then minus 20% off it.
example:
laser robot = 40%
fire fox = 50%
spideroid with technology 7 alignment = 70%
thats how i think this game works to be honest... it was the same with the old version (of course im more likely to notice how unlucky i am rather than the time when i am lucky)
the old version it was a lot easier to beam stuff down........
there is no "minus 20%". The problem is that we cannot order random number generator :)
the problem is that theres only 1 random number generator for the entire game... that messes up the percentages and puts a lot more luck into it than there was in the old castle on games domain where there was a random generator for every 5 actions i believe.... :-\ made 60% beam down 80% of the time... kinda added to the percent making it a lot easier to beam down...
Easier beam downs is not a good thing. If it says it has a 60 % chance of working, then it should stay like that.
BTW Adam, you have to admit that move i pulled off other day was sweet :D
i dont remember what it was but i remember it was fucking lucky as hell... which is why i dont like the fact that theres only 1 random number generator... makes the game consist mainly of luck like that... >:(
Quotei remember it was fucking lucky
please watch your words.
Quotei dont like the fact that theres only 1 random number generator
there is really nothing wrong about having 1 RNG.

I second that.
except that numbers arent quite as random... :-\
i know theres no minus 20% im just saying it feels that way sometimes. especially when about 75% of my 50%+60% creatures fail (if u can understand that)
just to "prove" this fact ill show results of 3 games i just played.
game 1:
i had three 60% objects fail in a row - and subsequently died
game 2:
i had one 60% and one 50% fail - game ended like turn 5
game 3:
i had one 90% fail, one 60% fail and one 50% fail and then died
-----
in all 3 games above i had ONE object succeed that was 50% or 60% out of SEVEN attempts, and none below 50%.
so there you go, maybe it needs reworking?
start single player game, try beaming down the monsters and note down the results. And do it more times, 7 times is like nothing.
btw I tried it right now and my results were:
50% success
50% failed
50% success
40% success
40% success
60% success
60% failed
40% success
50% failed
50% failed
50% success
70% suceess
60% failed
40% failed
70% success
50% failed
50% failed
60% failed
60% failed
40% failed
60% failed (well, very long unsuccesful row, isn't it)
90% success (finally)
Last night I was playing waylan, and NOTHING below 90% worked, I mean absolutely nothing!!!
that just means you had back luck that day... get over it.
everyone around here seems to be writing everything off on the propability factor. how about some investigation instead? i don't mean to sound like a prick, but come on, when someone complains, people say "it's bad luck."
Thats because it generally is. Matlu did some investigating didn't he, his results showed that the probability is fine. You can't always think that because it's 90%, it will work all of the time. Because it wont.
As for 50%'s, it's like flipping a coin, sometimes you can get tails a few times in a row, but that doesn't stop it from being a 50-50 chance.
Quotehow about some investigation instead?
What about doing it yourself instead of writing rants?
Nothing is easier. Start single player game, take a piece of paper and note down results (along with probability).
If you know something about statistics you'll be also able to interpret the result.
Decided to do this for some fun, here are my results...

Anyone feel like working the statistics out?
How strange...not your results....
I was looking at this topic because I saw that I guest was reading it...Then I clicked refresh and you had posted :)

It was probably me.
A guest, not the guest. :)
that guest was probably me before I logged in...
Mine is always logged in...I don't have to log in. :) loser.
Me too....LOSER

Back to the actual point of this topic....all four of your 80%'s failed?? And two out of three 20%'s worked?? And only two out of fourteen 50%'s failed....weird....

Yup, it was tested over 3 games. I was surprised with the results myself, but it all seems to balance out.
